Finally, New Assassin's Creed Will Be Set in Japan
During today’s Ubisoft Forward presentation, the company announced another, after Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, “major” game in the series. It’s codename is “Red” and it will be set in feudal Japan.
One of the locations long anticipated by the fans of the Assassin’s Creed series was feudal Japan. Ubisoft apparently listened to their wish, because one of the games announced during today’s Ubisoft Forward showcase was Assassin’s Creed: Red (codename).
The game’s story will be set in the Land of the Rising Sun – most likely between the years 1600 and1868 (Edo period), when Japan’s political system was based on the center of power ruled by the shogun and numerous subordinate but at the same time relatively autonomous feudal domains. The players are to experience a “wonderful adventure” as a shinobi (other name for a ninja, which fits the Assassins pretty good).
Assassin’s Creed: Red is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec – the team that has previously worked on, e.g. AC: Odyssey. The project is led by Jonathan Dumont, and the game itself is to be an “evolution of Ubisoft’s idea of open world creation”.
Unfortunately, we did not learn when AC: Red is to be released. What is certain is that it will launch after Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, which likely means no earlier than 2024 (the release of Mirage is scheduled for 2023).
